Viveka – How to Practice

September 29, 2021

Notes by Om Shreejay

We started with Shankar ji asking us to show the plants that we planted last week and how many times we expressed gratitude when we watered our plants.

Review of last class: Virtue – Viveka (Prioritization)

What is prioritization? Prioritization is the ability to know what is important in our lives.

Why is prioritization important? It helps us avoid feelings of regret.

Today’s class – Practice and its significance

How do we practice prioritization? Plan your day: When you wake up, write down the most important thing that you need to do today

We started to plan our week by putting together 3 lists –

  1. Things we have to do e.g., classes, tests, assignments, homework, brushing teeth, bathing, eating
  2. Things we should do (to make us better) e.g., practicing piano, taking notes in class, reading, chores, prayer, making our bed, exercise, spending time with parents
  3. Things we want to do e.g., play video games, play with toys, watch TV, play with friends

We then wrote down all the things we did today and classified this into the 3 lists (had to do, should do, want to do).

We then thought about and listed what activity we should do every day that would help us get better (List 2 activities).

Lesson from Practice: The more time we spend on activities in list 2, we better we get at prioritization.

RAW (Reflection Adventure of the Week)

Plan your days: Make a plan for the rest of the week by writing down the day and time that you will do the remaining activities from your three lists.
