Class Summary Jan 27, 2023
Vijayji starts with a question for all of us! How did Uma know what to do?
He encourages us to do deep Mananam – in a thorough way, where you get a nice grip of the higher step that you are holding with utmost faith. Our concepts have to be internalized well. Sometimes concepts extend to 2 verses or more. We need to pay attention to sangati. How they are related to each other. We need to pay attention, zoom in/out sometimes to get the entire concept.
Vijayji brings in the importance of Adhyayan.
He reviewed the verses for our benefit. When there is sincere adhyayan, Bhagavan pushes you to the next class so easily.
When Naradji is telling horoscope and about what Uma has to do to have Lord Shiva as her husband. It is a declaration that Rishi Narada is Uma’s Guru. That being said. The only thing that was left was tapasya. This is clearly understood by Giriraj and Uma. Giriraj asks Maina to confirm this by telling this (one should perform tapasya) to Uma.
71.2: Vijayji emphasizes the importance of this verse, as Gurudev mentions this message is pregnant (sagarbh). There were indications from Narada ji, how you need to convert durguna to good ones.
71.3: Maina heads to Uma to ask her to start her penance. She keeps Uma in her lap to tell her this. Maina isn’t sure how to tell her that she needs to head out to do her tapasya.
71.4: Maina hugged her child a few times. Sarvagya Bhavani is mentioned here. What do you mean by sarvagya? We know Lord Shiva is sarvagya… how did Bhavani become sarvagya? Do Shiva and Parvathy have the same powers? Ponder over the concept here. Lord Shiva, Mata Parvathy and Lord Rama, Brahma ji, Rishi Narada and Rishi Vasishta are sarvagya. We will look at this again later.
Uma however understands that a parent cannot ask their child to go and do tapasya. So, she tells them instead.
Do. 72: Uma tells Maina that she had a vision (dream) where a Brahmana comes and gives Upadesha to Uma.
72.1: Tapah is given prime importance in these verses. Brahmana says to Uma, “ Hey, Parvathy, what Rishi Narada said is 100% true so, get ready to perform austerities!”. So, Uma says to her mother that she already is aware that she needs to do tapasya and only that is good for me. We always want to get rid of all our sorrows permanently and stay in permanent happiness forever. The only way to go about this is to do tapah. Tapah cannot be done without vairagya.
72.2: All the Devi and Devatas – roles of the universe is done only by the virtue of Tapah. Brahma (creator), Vishnu (preserver), Sambhu (who brings dissolution), Sesha (Divine serpent) who bears the burden of this world, only do it by tapah.
72.3: In the dream, Uma was also told that the foundation of creation is based on tapah. Hearing all this from Uma, Maina is relieved and delighted. She tells Himavan about this vision/dream. Vijayji asks us all who is this person who tells this statement in the dream to Uma. Ponder over this.
72.4: So, Uma sets out to do her tapah in good spirits.
Do.73: Rishi Vedashira comes to bless the family and comfort them by telling them that Uma is a gifted child. She is not ordinary! New topics come along.
Jai Shri Ram!
