Managing Me: 8th Annual CMWRC Youth Camp

Due to the Covid-19 situation, the Youth Camp was held online, from July 12th – 16th, 2pm to 4pm each day. The largest high school camp in Chinmaya Mission West came together daily for 2 hours of engaging discourse, discussion, dialogue, and dynamic activity. The camp’s theme was “Managing Me.”

This year’s camp brought together 92 youth from more than 13 states across North America. In this camp, Vivekji spent 10 hours with our youth teaching about investing in our Self, learning about how to manage our body, breath, mind, intellect, ego and lifestyle (Shatakosha Viveka).

The campers were engaged in discussion sessions as well as dynamic activity each day – they played a fast-paced game of Taboo with Vivekji and experienced guided imagery and guided reflection. They made blackout poems with excerpts from Gurudev’s “Self Unfoldment” to dig deeper into the mind and thoughts.

Parents gathered during one of the evenings for a special dialogue session with Vivekji which was a most intimate, meaningful experience for all.

A managed self is at peace, and mismanaged self is distracted.

Vivekji illuminated how our external lifestyle influences our internal life. The main message the youth took back with them? “A managed self is at peace, and a mismanaged self is distracted.”

The feedback from the campers was positive and all of them opined that they would love a longer camp next year and that they look forward to it.
