Virtue- discipline

  • Do not be lazy.
  • Laziness is addicting.
  • Laziness does not let you do work.
  • Also reduces ability to do anything.

How to practice discipline?

Whenever we wake up, clean your room.

Last week’s summary:

Opposite of focus is being distracted

Example: I read a page then I cannot recall as I was distracted, I was not totally focusing.

Practice for focusing — chew slowly — 10 times or more.

Purpose of this practice was to get in the habit of thinking about one thing at a time.

Laziness is the topic of the week.

When you don’t want to work, don’t want to put in effort or you go on the iPad. It feels great then but can bring us regret when we look back on it. We wish we did better things and felt more productive.

The virtue to work on is DISCIPLINE. This means when we do the things that we don’t feel like doing at that time. Whenever we can overcome the feeling of laziness and are able to do the work given. Not let our likes and dislikes force us to do things or not do things.

PRACTICE

How do we overcome laziness?

Discipline is like one muscle we must exercise. We must do it in baby (small) steps. We can practice by keeping our room totally clean: comforters, pillows, clothes, wash my dirty clothes (to laundry).

Really important ideas from the video:

What were the bad consequences of hiring others to do the work?

When they were being lazy, they were not helping anyone including themselves. We get lazier as we cannot let go of the feeling and act . Whenever we are not productive and doing work then we feel really tired and negative.
