Course Description:

Happy Hour is a profound yet engaging class designed especially for kids to explore the timeless wisdom of Hindu philosophy and the vibrant tapestry of Hindu culture. This class is a journey through the rich heritage of Hinduism, aiming to instill a sense of pride and belonging in young minds.

Through the text “Why Do We?”  in combination withHindu Culture: An Introductionand “Hinduism: Frequently Asked Questions“, children will embark on an exciting adventure where they will:

  • Discover Ancient Wisdom: Learn about the core principles of Hindu philosophy through fun stories and interactive discussions.
  • Explore Myths and Legends: Dive into the captivating world of Hindu mythology with tales that have shaped cultural traditions for thousands of years.
  • Appreciate the Symbols: Explore the meaning behind various Hindu symbols.
  • Connect with Nature: Learn about the deep connection between Hinduism and nature, including the reverence for rivers, mountains, trees, and animals, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship.
  • Embrace Diversity: Understand the diversity within Hindu culture, from regional customs and languages to various forms of worship, promoting respect and inclusivity.

By the end of this class, children will not only have a better understanding of Hindu philosophy and culture but also a deep sense of pride in their heritage. They will be empowered to share this knowledge with others and carry forward the rich traditions of Hinduism with confidence and joy.

Seeker/Student profile (for whom this course is most suitable):

All kids from 1st grade – 8th grade.

Weekly Commitment:

  1. Class takes place on Zoom every Wednesday from 7:45pm-9pm ET (holidays will be announced in class in advance).
  2. This course requires a commitment to regular weekly attendance, active listening and reflection.
  3. Engaging in the RAW (Reflection Adventure of the Week) given at the end of every class.

Learning Objectives (key outcomes that you can achieve by the end of the course):

  1. Understanding of the practical application and deeper meaning of practices in Hinduism.
  2. Strengthened ability to make decisions based on their value system instead of peer pressure. 
  3. Building new friendships with kids of the same age.
  4. A shift towards being lighter and having more fun!!

Requirements:

Each student is required to attend class with their cameras on, a notebook, pencil, and ready mind to reflect on the teachings shared and express their thought processes, progress, and conclusions as well as being open to hearing other’s reflections.
