Summary of last session (February 24) by Shri Mohan Khandekar

Shri Vijay ji started the session by recapping the meaning of previous Dohas.

After Doha 108, Parvati ji poses eleven questions to Shiv ji, which he answers.

After Doha 111, Shiv Gita begins which is a very important part of Ramcharit Manas as it talks about the relationship between Jeev, Jagat and Ishwar.

Doha 112 describes Ram Leela which delight Sura and Asura equally.  Suras derive great pleasure and Asuras get attracted towards the stories of His leela.

113:3 Shiv ji is greatly pleased by Parvati ji’s queries and assures her that He will answer Her whatever He has heard. ( “I will explain to you once I know your ability to understand”)

113:4 Shiv ji is clearly displeased with Parvati ji because she shows disrespect to Vedas. He reminds Her that Glories of Shri Ram are sung by Vedas, sages and Saints. Vijay ji reminded us that Vedas hold the highest position in Sanatan Dharma and we should always uphold them. Vijay ji then spoke about Bhakti which is total surrender. He further emphasized external and internal Sadhana to overcome the veiling and projection power of Maya. Purity of mind and clarity of thoughts is paramount for Self realization.

114:3 Those who do not understand the nature of supreme reality either with form and without form are ignorant and continue to be entangled in the cycle of death and birth.

115: ” Hey, Parvati, leave your doubts behind and surrender yourself to Shri Ram.  Being devoted to Him will remove the ignorance, just like the sun rays eliminate the darkness” Shiv ji advises. Vijay ji’s comments: Ignorance is not removed by reading only but by listening as well. Sadhus and Swamis always follow this practice.

115:1 Here Shiv ji reintrates that there is no difference between Sagun and Nirgun. (Upanishads say the same).   Vijay ji further explained by citing examples of sweets. The sweets are of different forms but we experience only one taste..taste of sugar! Sweetness is the true nature of sugar. Similarly, the Munis, the knowers, Vedas and Puranas emphasise that the true nature of both Sagun and Nirgun is the same, Sachhitanand. The ‘formless’ takes “form” for the sake of pure love by the devotee.  The only reason Shri Ram took birth was to fulfil wishes of His beloved devotees.

115:2 Just like there is no difference between water and ice, Sagun and Nirgun are alike. Reciting His name is like the shining sun which is capable of removing darkness (ignorance).  Those who understand are not delusional.

115:3 The upper line of the Choupahi compares Shri Ram (Sachhitanand) to the almighty Sun.  The second line represents Him to be Ishwar with six divine qualities, Vijay ji explained these six, namely,

Aishwarya: there is no greater Lordship
Virya: No greater power than His
Yash: the wealthiest (what is wealth? the One who sustains EVERYTHING)
Naam: The Fame
Vairagya: The One who is totally detached.  That’s why He has POWER to reincarnate.
Gyan: Whose knowledge never dissipates.

Jai Shri Raam!
