Śama

In this week’s class, we learned about the virtue Quietude – Quiet Mind. It means to have mind that is thinking about what you are doing in present and does not get distracted.

Story

Shankarji shared the story of ‘Hanuman ji and mountain Mainak’.When Hanuman ji was flying to Lanka to find mata Sita, on the way he meets mountain Mainak who asked Hanuman ji to come and rest for a while, but Hanuman ji refused saying that he will not rest until he finishes Lord Rama’s task. So Hanuman ji’s  response shows us how a quiet mind acts. He was only focused on finding mata Sita and was not distracted to rest.

How do I develop Quietude?

  • Ask yourself what things distract me?
  • Do my distractions have purpose?
  • Shankar ji told us the example of mindlessly engaging on our devices, using them without any purpose, wasting our time and energy.

Rather we should

  • Remember why we are using our devices.
  • Set a timer while using them.
  • Using your devices for productive learning.

RAW –  Do not use devices before 9 AM and after 9 PM.
