Changing Soch

Summary of last session (October 8) Shri Mohan Khandekar

Shri Vijay ji started the session by explaining the significance of Devotion. In Bhagvatam Devotion is compared to Mother (भक्ती माता). She has two sons, Knowledge and Discrimination (ज्ञान और वैराग्य).  As per Adi Shankaracharya, In Vedanta philosophy, Ishtadevatas are our parents and they too have two sons and two daughters (Discrimination, Dispassion, Shat Sampatti  and Mumukshutvam).

With this introduction, he directed our attention to 55:4 and the words मिटई भक्ती.  Here Sati is compared to devotion. Shiv ji thinks if I love dishonest Sati, then the devotion is compromised.

Vijay ji’s comments: As per Vedanta, if you don’t get Jeevanmukti NOW, you will never get it.

57:सो Here milk signifies purity, Shri Ram, Shiv ji.  When water is mixed with milk, it becomes milk. A Mahavakya of तत्त्वमसि can be easily explained with this example.  Impure water can not reach Godly state. Here Shri Vijay ji explained the principles of Vivarta Vad and Parinam Vad (विवर्त वाद परिणाम वाद). Our ignorance superimposes a snake on the rope. A rope was always a rope.  If we purify our mind and add Vedantic knowledge to it then Jeevanmukti is possible.

57:1/2 Shri Vijay ji referred to the BMI chart to explain two words Sochu (सोचू) and  Akulani (अकुलानी) means worry.  He elaborated on Vasana, Samskar, Punya, Paap and Dharmic and Adharmic tendencies arising from them respectively. Sati sowed the seed of Sin in her mind by her thinking (सोच).  The first emotion of sin is fear, the second is worry, the third is sorrow and the last one is repentance. Sati thinks “I cannot say anything to anyone because this is my sin”. Here Tulsidas ji calls Sati as Bhavani. Anyone who accepts their mistakes is given a higher status.  That’s why Sati is called Bhavani and Dacchakumari.

57:3 Sasoch (ससोच) means good thinking. Shivji entertained Sati by narrating simple historical stories, because He knew she was diturbed.

57:4 Upon reaching Kailash, Shiv ji went into deep Samadhi.  In Samadhi all negative nature turns into positive. What is Shivji’s real nature? It is Sacchidanand. That is our nature too. Here Shri Vijay ji explained the words Vratti Vyapti and Phal Vyapti (वृत्ती व्याप्ती फल व्याप्ती). Hold onto Vratti vyapti instead of Phal vyapti (object).

Doha 58:  Sati continues to live in Kailash, unable to share her sad thoughts.  For her every passing day is like a yug (युग)

Jai Shri Ram.
